Wooden Crate Scooters were popular with children in the 1930s and 1940s. They can be built from readily available craft wood and plastic wheel sets. With a few crafting tools, your 18 doll can join in the fun with this classic toy. 

Recommended Fabrics: wood crafting tools

Supplies Needed:

  • 1 each: 6 inch wide by 1 2 inch thick by 12 inches long basswood piece
  • 1 each: 4 inch wide by 1 8 inch thick by 24 inches long basswood piece 
  • 1 each: 3 inch wide by 1 8 inch thick by 24 inches long basswood piece
  • 2 each: 1 4 inch square by 24 inches long basswood piece
  • 1 each: 3 8 inch square by 24 inches long basswood piece
  • 4 each: 1 inch diameter plastic wheels (a set of 4 such wheels is available for a popular youth wooden car derby and can be found at most hobby outlets)
  • Utility knife with a razor blade
  • Razor Saw
  • Hammer
  • Metal Square
  • Masking tape
  • Tape measure and or metal ruler
  • Sharp pencil
  • 120 grit sand paper
  • A hard and safe cutting surface
  • Wood glue (clear drying)
  • Paper towels
